Louis Ruiz and son, Fred Ruiz, started Ruiz Foods in 1964.

In 1964, Louis Ruiz and his son, Fred, embarked on a dream to sell frozen Mexican food, based on the family recipes of Fred's mother, affectionately known as Grandma Rosie. Together, father and son met the challenge of growing demand for their authentic burritos, enchiladas and tamales to become the largest manufacturer of frozen Mexican food in the United States. In 1983, their hard work, dedication and innovative business practices earned them national recognition from the U.S. Small Business Administration. But their story of success was only just beginning.

The Ruiz family of employees has now grown to more than 2,500 outstanding individuals. Many of them work in the heart of California's San Joaquin Valley, in Dinuba, where Ruiz Foods' headquarters and the company's 300,000 sq. ft. main manufacturing facility are located. Additional facilities with dedicated Ruiz employees in Tulare, California and Denison, Texas are key to making sure Ruiz Foods continues to deliver on its promise to provide quality, affordable, and of course, delicious, frozen Mexican food.

Under the El Monterey and Tornados brand names, Ruiz Foods now offers more than 200 different products. Some products express the family's rich Mexican heritage, in keeping with the authentic Mexican recipes of Fred's mother. The company has also introduced many innovative products, offering new flavor experiences that have been embraced by millions of El Monterey and Tornados fans.

Today, Fred's children carry on the traditions that have made Ruiz Foods America's leading frozen Mexican food manufacturer -- Kim Ruiz Beck as Chairman and interim President & CEO, and Fred's other children as members of the Board of Directors. Together, this third generation of the Ruiz family has embraced the legacy of creating new products and expanding distribution to share their family's love of Mexican food in more ways, and with more people, than ever before.
